Step-by-step septic tank replacement process with machinery and piping.

Septic Tank Replacement

A damaged or failing septic tank can lead to sewage backups, groundwater intrusion, odors, unsafe conditions, and problems throughout the rest of your septic system. When a tank can no longer be safely or effectively repaired, septic tank replacement may be the best long-term solution.

At WastePro Septic & Groundworks, we provide professional septic tank installation, excavation, and replacement for residential septic systems throughout Southeastern North Carolina.

Signs Your Septic System May Need Replacement

Not every septic problem means you need a new tank. Before recommending replacement, a thorough septic system evaluation should be conducted to determine the actual source of the problem.

Common reasons a septic tank may require replacement include:

- Cracked or structurally damaged tanks

- Collapsed or deteriorated tank walls

- Damaged inlet or outlet connections

- Severe corrosion or deterioration

- Groundwater entering the tank

- Wastewater leaking from the tank

- Failed internal baffles

- Unsafe or deteriorated lids

- Tank movement or settlement

- An aging tank that is no longer serviceable

We Diagnose Before We Replace

At WastePro, our goal is to recommend the right repair—not the most expensive one.

If the issue can be reasonably corrected with a line repair, lid replacement, riser installation, baffle repair, pump replacement, or another suitable solution, we'll outline those options during our septic services.

If the tank is structurally compromised or replacement is necessary, we'll guide you through the next steps before any work begins.

Septic Tank Replacement Process

Depending on the system and approved requirements, the replacement process may involve:

- Locating and exposing the existing septic tank

- Pumping the tank when required

- Evaluating connecting sewer and effluent lines

- Excavating and removing or properly abandoning the existing tank

- Preparing the excavation for the replacement tank

- Installing the approved septic tank

- Connecting inlet and outlet piping

- Installing required risers and access lids

- Checking system connections and operation

- Backfilling and grading the disturbed area

- Coordinating required inspections and approvals

Because WastePro also provides excavation services, we're well-equipped to handle the digging, tank placement, trenching, backfilling, and site restoration involved in the replacement.

More Than Just the Tank

A failed tank can sometimes uncover issues elsewhere in the septic system. During replacement, accessible components may also need to be evaluated, including the sewer line, distribution box, effluent filter, pump chamber, drain field, risers, and connecting piping.

Addressing these issues at the same time can help prevent the installation of a new tank while leaving an existing system problem unresolved.
